Saturday night we had service project cleaning the church. We went to dinner afterwards before heading back up the mountain. The clouds were moving in and the mountain was pretty socked in. Driving up the mountain, we came to a guard that wouldn't let us proceed any further. A mother sage hen stepped in front of our truck and every time we tried to drive around her, she moved in front of the truck. Steve got out to try and scoot her off the road, and she came after him. He finally got back in the truck and I was able to gently shoo her to the side of the road. The truck started moving, and I ran along side until I was ahead of her and jumped in.
In talking to the 2nd year missionaries, she was in the same spot last year. She must have a nest close by, and only wants to protect it. I hope she doesn't get hit on the road.
